A proper diagnosis is a foundational component of any treatment plan. At AWH we leave no stone unturned in our investigations of your health concerns. At the end of your appointment your practitioner will recommend appropriate testing that will help to ensure their treatments are targeted to the right conditions and are the most effective possible. We offer a variety of in house, core and functional tests. 

In House Testing

  • Bioimpedance analysis – an assessment of body composition
  • Indican testing- an estimate of digestive function
  • Koensburg- an estimate of adrenal function
  • Urinalysis 
  • Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system balance

Core Labs

These are laboratory investigations conducted a your local Lifelabs facility. We can provide basic assessments similar to a medical doctors investigation or more thorough testing.

Tests commonly recommended by our Naturopathic Doctors include:

Functional Labs

These labs provide a more indepth look at various aspects of health. Functional testing is intended, as it suggests, to look into how well your body is functioning. These advanced level tests help to provide your ND with clues as to why you are struggling with your health, or alternatively, what measures should be taken to ensure that you remain healthy. 

Hormonal Health 

DUTCH 

  • This is a dried urine test that investigates estrogen, progesterone, DHEA-S, testosterone, DHT, cortisol and their breakdown products. It provides a thorough look into which hormonal imbalances could be contributing to your symptoms

ZRT Panels

  • Female sex hormone investigations for fertilty, preconception and a variety of symptoms of hormone imbalance. These panels include a variety of markers including estrogen, progesterone, DHEA-S, testosterone, DHT, sex hormone binding globulin, LH, FSH, cortisol, TSH, free T4, free T3, Reverse T3, Anti TG and Anti TPO
  • Male hormone investigations for fertility, preconception and general wellness. These panels include testosterone, DHEA-S, DHT, estrogen, cortisol, PSA (prostate specific antigen)

Metabolic Health

When investigating metabolic health it is important to consider thyroid hormones, insulin, glucose, cortisol and stress hormones, liver function, digestive function, cholesterol levels and hormone balance. We use a variety of core and functional tests in our thorough investigation.

  • Weight Management Profile – Estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, DHEA-S, four point cortisol, TSH, Insulin, HbA1c & Vitamin D 

Gastrointestinal Health

Organic Acids Testing

  • This comprehensive test provides an investigation into yeast and bacterial overgrowth along with assessments of mitochondrial health, digestion, nutrient levels and much more. A build up of organic acids in the urine suggests a metabolic block or inhibition. This can be due to an infection, nutrient deficiency, drug effect or genetic polymorphism.

GI Effects 

  • This non-invasive test investigates your digestion, absorption, gut immune function and bacterial imbalances (yeast overgrowth, parasites, dysbiosis, hpylori etc). It also outlines the levels of healthy bugs in the microbiome which is important for immune and digestive health. 

SIBO testing

  • Breath testing that investigates bacterial overgrowth in the small intestines

Parasite testing

  • A stool sample investigating parasite growth
