Dr. Andrea Whelan, ND

Naturopathic Doctor

I’m Andrea Whelan, a naturopathic doctor in Victoria, BC with a passion to change how people experience healthcare. The most important aspect of my work is ensuring that my patients feel seen, heard and cared for; that they are treated like individuals with unique characteristics and goals, and are always involved in their care plan (they are the ones doing it afterall!).

As part of Advanced Women’s Health, a growing network of practitioners that support each other, learning and growing together as a team, I can help ensure that high quality care is the standard in women’s health. With a community behind me, this not only lifts me up to be the best practitioner I can be, but also offers my patients access to a vast bank of knowledge behind my suggestions – a win-win for all.

How I work

My job, which I’m so grateful for, is to always be curious and open minded. I consider your story, your symptoms and laboratory findings as a whole, and connect them in a way that inspires you, to help get the results you are looking for in addition to a healthier and more resilient you. There is no magic pill, but by correcting physiology and removing sources of stress and inflammation in the body and mind (hint: it’s not all about food!), my patients feel better and learn a lot in the process as well.

My areas of focus are:

  • PCOS
  • Metabolic health and weight management
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Digestive health
  • Mental health
  • Fatigue/burnout

My process:

Initial visit: we will spend up to 75 minutes reviewing your health concerns and goals, relevant medical history, mental/emotional and social health as well as any obstacles getting in the way. By the end of this visit, I will  determine which labs will be most appropriate to fill in the blanks and help guide the most effective treatment plan for you.

First follow up visit: a 45 minute appointment to review initial progress, answer any questions or concerns, review lab results, and discuss your personalized plan moving forward.

Follow-up visits, thereafter: depending on the case, follow-up visits can be 15 – 45 minutes in length (most often 30 minutes) to review progress, repeat labs where necessary, discuss and work through obstacles as well as update the treatment plans as your health and symptoms evolve.

I am trained in acupuncture, intravenous (IV) therapy and have prescription rights when needed. Most often I also use a combination of targeted supplementation, nutrition and various lifestyle strategies that meets each patient where they’re at.

My why:

Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing people suffer and worse being mistreated and ignored by the medical system. Your concerns matter and there are always answers if you look deep enough. I’m here to help!

Looking forward to working with you,

Dr. Andrea
